The Danish Concert Band was founded in 1968 and today consists of around 65 members.
The orchestra has an exciting history with numerable concerts and concert tours in Denmark and Europe, prestigious competition results, CD releases, premieres and compositions commissioned from both national and international composers, among them Søren Hyldgaard. The Dutch composer Johan de Meij has dedicated an arrangement of the first movement of Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 to the orchestra.

The danish clarinetist and conductor Klaus Tönshoff (born 1975) began his career in The Tivoli Youth Guard in Copenhagen and is educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Music with further studies in Karlsruhe, Germany and Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1999 Klaus is a member of the clarinet section in The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. He is among the most sought-after instructors for wind bands in Denmark and has been Music Director for The Tivoli Youth Guard from 2013-2023.
Klaus conducted various ensembles and professional orchestras – among others The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. He's censor at The Royal Danish Academy of Music (clarinet and chamber music) and has been present in several jurys in auditions for young wind musicians. Klaus has received a number of Danish awards for his effort in the danish music life. Since January 2024, Klaus Tönshoff has assumed the role of Artistic Leader and Conductor of The Danish Concert Band.
