Strusshamn Musikkforening, founded on April 4, 1912, is the oldest wind orchestra in Askøy. For 114 years, it has been driven by passionate individuals and currently has members spanning ages from 13 to 75. The ensemble fosters a strong social community and benefits from skilled leadership both musically and organizationally.
Strusshamn Musikkforening has a rich tradition of collaborating with renowned artists to create high-quality concerts, serving as a breeding ground for talented musicians. The orchestra has experienced remarkable musical growth, culminating in their participation in the European Championship for Wind Orchestras in 2024, having been crowned the best wind band in the Norwegian Championship 2023.

Reid Gilje, the resident conductor and honorary member of Strusshamn Musikkforening, is celebrated as a versatile and accomplished musician, arranger, and conductor. He received his conducting education from the Grieg Academy in Bergen and has led several of Norway’s professional military bands, symphony orchestras, and top-tier amateur brass and wind ensembles, both nationally and internationally.
His portfolio includes engagements in television, theater, and show productions, collaborating with renowned artists across various genres. Reid Gilje’s leadership is marked by a deep commitment to the people he guides and the music they create together.
